Accessibility

PODD is a communication system used by people with disability. A website about it has no business being hard to use. We treat accessibility as part of building this site, not as something checked at the end.

How accessible this site is

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. At the date above we believe the site is partially conformant — most of it meets that standard, and the known gaps are listed below. We would rather tell you what is not finished than claim more than we can stand behind.

What we have done

  • Every page has one main heading and a heading structure you can navigate by.
  • Text and background colors meet or exceed the required contrast. We deliberately avoid using our lighter teal for text, because it does not pass.
  • Every meaningful image has alternative text. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers rather than read out as filenames.
  • The whole site can be operated with a keyboard, and the focused element is always clearly outlined.
  • A “skip to content” link lets keyboard and screen reader users bypass the navigation.
  • Moving content can be paused, and we honor your operating system setting if you have asked for reduced motion.
  • Forms have real labels, mark required fields, and describe errors in words.
  • Pages reflow to a 320 pixel width and can be zoomed to 200% without losing content or needing to scroll sideways.
  • Clickable targets are at least 24 by 24 pixels.

Known problems

We are aware of the following and are working on them.

  • Embedded video. Videos play in YouTube’s own player, which we do not control. Caption quality depends on the original video.
  • PDF documents. Some documents we link to are produced by other organizations and may not be fully accessible. If a PDF is a barrier for you, contact us and we will get you the content another way.
  • Links to other websites. Vendor and partner sites are outside our control and we cannot guarantee their accessibility.
  • Screen reader testing. Our testing so far has been automated and manual keyboard testing. We have not yet completed a full assessment with JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver.

Tell us if something does not work

If you hit a barrier on this site, or you need something here in a different format, please tell us. You do not need to know the technical reason, and you do not need to use any particular words — describing what happened is enough.

Email [email protected]. We aim to reply within five working days. If you need the content urgently, say so and we will prioritize getting it to you while we fix the underlying problem.

If you are not satisfied with how we respond, please say so in reply — we would rather hear it directly.

How we tested

This site was assessed against WCAG 2.2 Level AA in October 2026 using a combination of automated checks across every page and template, manual keyboard testing, and inspection of markup, color contrast and reflow behavior. The assessment was carried out by Adamant Media, LLC. It has not been independently audited by a third party.

Compatibility

The site is built to work in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop and mobile, with or without a screen reader, and with browser zoom and operating system text size settings applied.
